John Tejada – Signs Under Test – Selections [Kompakt]
Signs Under Test is an absolutely wonderful tech house EP. It is inventive, it is unique, and it is highly danceable. In some ways, it reminds me of Paul Kalkbrenner’s style with ambient, reverb-laden futuristic synths, and a thick, big room sound. Two 0 One is upbeat and very fun to listen to, and the use of percussion is absolutely top notch. The instruments used are interesting, add a nice depth to the track, and in many ways are very funky. The spacey synths overtop add a nice tone to the track, and the melody itself is also catchy and nice to listen to. Vaalbara is a bit darker and has a heavier focus on the lower decibel spectrum of instruments, but continues with the idea of high, melodic synths. The range of sound gives the track a great range of sound, and a lot of intricacy and depth. Finally, Beacht is a bit more high-energy and sticks along the vein of the EP as a whole with heavy reverb. This time however, the kick drum is in focus and it gives the track a great big-room quality and sounds great through high-quality speakers.
Give this album a listen. It sounds great, it’s unique, it’s funky, and it is very well produced.
