Fans mourned the news that Avicii was to retire from touring as a DJ for weeks. However, the Swede has not renounced his skills in the studio with the release of AVĪCI.

Tim Bergling continues to be a mastermind behind the studio controls. He has come a long way since “Levels” catapulted him to worldwide success. His two studio albums, True and Stories, showed off his unique production style that combined folk and electronic sounds. The six tracks on AVĪCI pick up exactly where those two albums left off.

The first track, “Friend of Mine,” features Vargas & Lagola, and brings together themes of nostalgia and homecoming. “Lonely Together,” with Rita Ora, delves into the perils of a broken relationship. “You Be Love,” with Billy Raffoul, is an emotional piece related to one’s dedication to someone. “Without You,” with Sandro Cavazza, brings back a thumping house sound while also discussing the personal rebound after a breakup. “What Would I Change It To” alongside AlunaGeorge rounds out the EP, talking about frustrations of love next to a catchy rhythm.

Simply put, the AVĪCI EP has no weak points. Avicii‘s talent for combining folk and progressive house sounds remains unrivaled in the electronic music industry.
