JFB Teaches Fish56Octagon How To Scratch in New Video Series
It’s widely known that DJing sensation Fish56Octagon is a bonafide selector, but what happened when he learnt to scratch for the very first time? The DMC World DJ Championships put Fish to the test and teamed him up with the three-time World Champion JFB. Captured in a mini-video series, the episodes follow Fish as he dives headfirst into the foundations of turntablism under the guidance of one of the most decorated champions in the game.
JFB, who has spent more than 30 years mastering the craft and has collaborated with Deekline, Beardyman, Fatboy Slim and leading tech brands Serato and Denon, was taken aback by how quickly Fish picked up the skill.
JFB said, “I was blown away at just how good Fish was. His transformer scratch was off the scale, and he performed the chirp scratches immediately too. He was so good at scratching, it would be a wasted talent if he doesn’t use his new learnt skill into his DJ sets. It was a joy to spend a few hours with him and welcome him into our turntablist world.”
The challenge was set ahead of Technics presents The DMC World DJ Championships World Finals at KOKO on 14 November – the biggest night in the global turntablist calendar. The most skilled DJs on the planet will be out in force with razor‑sharp routines, as they battle for the World Titles.
At this prestigious event, JFB will be flexing his skills to deliver a special seven‑deck showcase – a highlight for fans eager to see a world champion push the limits of what is possible on Technics turntables.
The night also features unmissable performances from former World Champions A-Trak and Craze, breakdancing battles from the UK B-Boy Champs Allstars, legendary UK rapper Monie Love, inductions to the Hall Of Fame, and the highly anticipated return of The Scratch Perverts who reunite after 20 years.
Will Fish56Octagon make an appearance to see how the pros do it? Either way, fans should check out this new video series for a close‑up look at the creativity and technical precision that define an artform shaped by decades of innovation and competition.
