Dannic & HIIO – Funky Time [February 15 – Fonk Recordings]

Dannic has finally come to the moment he has been anticipating for months now. He has officially launched the first tune that will be carried on his Fonk Recordings label, and it certainly does not disappoint. The Dutchman teamed up with Argentinian duo HIIO to present “Funky Time”. This tune has been awaited for a while now, and was long thought to be the inaugural tune for the new imprint since 2015’s Amsterdam Dance Event. In fact, this tune has been circulating the Internet as an ID track ever since Dannic took to the CircuitGrounds stage at EDC Las Vegas back in May 2015. We’ve certainly waited long enough, and “Funky Time” will be released on February 15.

“Funky Time” starts off rather quietly, with a quiet intro vibe and a slightly muffled vocal. The energy picks up steam pretty quickly, however, as Dannic and HIIO work in a vocal where “Funky Time” gets its name from. That vocal is joined by a slickly crafted acid synth, which is layered with a rather subtle pluck synth. From there, we get a taste of the main lead and chord progression of the breakdown. Dannic and HIIO worked a long buildup into this preview, but the drop that follows is well worth it. The bassline has an infectious groove to it, while the top line serves as the perfect minimal complement.

It’s safe to say Dannic and HIIO have inaugurated Fonk Recordings with a bang, so be sure to grab “Funky Time” when it drops on February 15.
