Vintage Culture, Kevin Brauer, Tuggawar – Selekta EP [AFFAIRS]

Vintage Culture returns with “SELEKTA”, a two-track EP made with DJ and producer Kevin Brauer and out today through Affairs Music, Vintage Culture’s own creative imprint. The title track features Hackney-born MC Tuggawar, whose vocals give the record its hook and its name.

Across the two tracks titled “SELEKTA” and “Yoga”, Vintage Culture and Brauer bring dancehall and reggae-influenced elements into contemporary electronic production. The tracks share a similar mood and musical character, forming a cohesive EP rather than presenting opposing sides of the collaboration. Heavy, controlled house production leaves space for Tuggawar’s recurring call: “Tell the SELEKTA, turn up the bass.” His delivery moves between full lines, direct commands and clipped phrases until the vocal sits inside the arrangement rather than on top of it.

For all the weight in the production, the track stays playful. The hook and the loose reggae swing let it move between house, dancehall and sound-system territory without settling into any one of them. It is built to travel: direct enough for a festival crowd, controlled enough for the club. “Yoga” continues in the same world, with reggae and dancehall-tinged elements over a driving electronic foundation. Heard together, the two tracks make a focused club release connected by rhythm, vocal character and a shared sense of movement, an EP rather than two opposing sides of a collaboration.
